How often is this calendar updated?

Automatically, through the day. New tournaments appear as soon as they are registered, and dates stay current — so what you see here is what is actually open.

Can I enter a tournament through Kingdom of Chess?

No — entries always go through the tournament organiser. Open any tournament for the organiser’s details and regulations. What we do is get your child ready for it.

What is a FIDE rating, and when does my child need one?

A FIDE rating is an official, international measure of playing strength. Your child earns one by playing rated tournaments. It is not needed to start — most students play their first rated event a few months in.

What do “Swiss”, “Round robin” and “Team” mean?

They are the tournament formats. Swiss is by far the most common for open events: everyone plays every round, paired against someone on a similar score. Round robin means everyone plays everyone. Team events are played by clubs or schools.

How old does my child have to be?

Rated tournaments run age categories from Under-7 upwards, and most also have an open section with no age limit at all. There is almost always an event a beginner can enter.

Is my child ready for a rated tournament?

Ask a coach. In a free assessment they will tell you honestly whether your child is ready, and which category to enter first.
